On the surface, it might be assumed that most people’s motivation for exploring the “lifestyle” or ENM is as simple as a desire for novelty or sexual exploration. It’s true that most of us are led by our excitement and hunger for new experiences, but that excitement can stop us from slowing down and asking ourselves WHY we’re so motivated to explore. This can lead to a lack of necessary awareness of ourselves and our relationships, and an all too common lack of awareness of what skills and responsibilities exploring new ways of relating actually requires.
