Publishers Weekly — the book industry’s leading trade publication since 1872

Hello Loving Without Boundaries Community!

Sometimes you find out something about your own life years after it happened.

Years ago, I contributed an essay to Dr. Elisabeth Sheff’s anthology, Stories from the Polycule — a real, honest piece about my own entry point into open relationships and polyamory. It’s one of my fondest memories, actually. Eli selected my essay for that book, and that moment became the spark for what’s now a friendship spanning well over a decade.

What I did NOT know, until very recently, is that Publishers Weekly — the actual trade publication of the entire book industry, running since 1872 — reviewed the book back in 2015.

And quoted me.

By name.

I lovingly invite you to go read it for yourself: the full review, right here.

They pulled a line from my essay describing what it’s like to live this life: “an unusual, charming, and oftentimes challenging choice.” Somewhere between a decade and forever ago now (my math gets fuzzier every year, don’t @ me), reading that sentence about myself again feels like meeting an old friend I forgot I had.

Here’s the honest, kind of wild part: I had no idea this existed until this week. All that time, just sitting there, unclaimed. Holy smokes.

A quick note on the book itself, if you want to read it:

Stories from the Polycule is currently out of print — the original publisher stopped distribution a while back, for reasons entirely outside anyone’s control. If you want to read it, your best bet right now is a used copy — AbeBooks has several available, often from independent used bookstores rather than one big retailer. It is absolutely worth the hunt. I actually wrote a full review of it myself, way back in 2015, if you want the longer story on why this book mattered to me then too.

You never know what’s sitting quietly in your own history, waiting to be found. This week, it was this. So dang proud of however-many-years-younger me for writing that essay in the first place. Time flies, y’all. 💜

If you’re looking for more of what I actually recommend reading, my full book list lives at lovingwithoutboundaries.com/books.

With love and gratitude, Kitty
