I think marginalised people are often saddled with the burden of educating people who hold more privilege. I think that's really unfair.

Sometimes you just need a break. Sometimes you don't have the energy. Sometimes they just need to educate themselves, or stay ignorant or whatever. Regardless of the reason, it's not your fucking job.

They're not coming in with the right energy. So you don't need to give them the right energy either. Fair is fair. If they're not coming across as curious with intent to learn, block them! You don't need to engage with that.

If you’re dealing with invasive questions from loved ones at the dinner table this holiday season, remember to reserve your energy for people who genuinely want to know how to treat you and your loved ones respectfully. Not those who are just committed to misunderstanding you.

You do not need to open yourself up to violations of privacy or abuse because someone is “just asking questions”. Set boundaries and shut things down when you don’t think a conversation is going in a productive direction. Or if you feel that someone is not coming at you in good faith.
