Don’t Date Just To Be In A Relationship

You should date someone because you want to be with them specifically. Not just because you want to be in a relationship (or multiple relationships). Good partner selection is key to sustainable and peaceful polyamory.

Some people like the idea of being in a relationship more than the person they're in the relationship with. In the same way, some people like the idea of having multiple partners more than the people they're actually dating. When that happens, it's incredibly confusing and hurtful to everyone involved. Not to mention it invites potential drama if you pick incompatible people 'just because'.

Dating is a process, and careful vetting will save you a lot of time and emotional energy. Some people take years to find a compatible partner, so if it takes you longer to find more than one, that is OKAY.
